The function of the generator is to provide all the necessary conditions and facilities for the production of X-rays. The input power for this module is supplied in pulses through a communication cable from the control box unit.
Three main factors are required to produce X-rays:
- A current that must flow through the filament (cathode) to heat it, causing free electrons to form an electron cloud around the filament.
- The required potential difference to move the electrons from the cathode toward the anode.
- A target or anode where the electrons, after being accelerated, collide.
